Copyright Skills as Risk Management Tools: The Librarian’s Role

Description:

This course was developed to equip medical librarians with the basic copyright skills necessary to develop “Best Practices” and to serve as valuable members of their organization’s risk management team.

Instructor: Barbara C. Ingrassia, MLS, AHIP, CCM, CLDC

Learning outcomes: Participants in this course will:

  • apply basic copyright concepts to answer myths commonly heard in their organizations
  • identify potentially risky practices in their organizations and draft at least 5 (five) relevant “Best Practices for copyright risk management”
  • develop a possible strategy for raising awareness among administrators (and others) of the potential legal, financial and ethical risks of copyright infringement and of the crucial role that the library can play in mitigating those risks
  • begin to plan an outreach/educational program for the various constituencies within their organizations to enable compliance with copyright law
  • become familiar with resources for staying informed about copyright issues 

CE Credit: 2.5 MLA Contact Hours

Dates: Wednesday, November 6, 1:00-2:30 pm AND Wednesday, November 20, 1:00-2:00pm

Facility Requirements: Webinar via Zoom. Participants may need to conduct a test prior to the scheduled webinar to ensure connectivity.
